I JUST HAD AN ACCIDENT, WHAT NOW?

What to do after a car accident.

Accidents happen, even to careful drivers. After a car accident, you will likely be stunned with shock or dizzy with adrenaline or possibly consumed with anger.  These are the situations why we have auto insurance: to financially protect ourselves and others.

First things first assess the situation and determine whether anyone is injured. If anyone is injured, call 911 and get an ambulance and police on the scene. Even if the incident was minor and everyone is cooperative call the police. That way you’ll have an official police report to give to your insurance company.

Right after an accident it is easy to forget details. Be sure to document everything before receiving your police report and leaving the scene. Using your smartphone, photograph the other driver’s insurance information and the damage to both vehicles. It is also a good idea to ask the other driver if you can take a picture of their driver’s license as well. Any documentation gathered will help you out.

You will then need to report the accident to your insurance company. It is not necessary or required to get three estimates. Your insurer may ask you to get several appraisals, but at Hollingsworth Auto, we work closely with insurers to ensure the highest quality repairs for you and competitive pricing for them. They will issue you a claim number, confirm your deductible amount and verify if you have rental car coverage. Advise your insurance company that you want Hollingsworth Auto Service to handle your repairs. Then, just give us a call and we’ll answer all your questions and handle getting your repair in process.

Hollingsworth technicians are I-Car and ASE certified in collision repair and refinish techniques. Our estimators are ASE B-6 certified and we have an ASE certified mechanic on staff. We are also a member of the DuPont Performance Alliance and the Automotive Service Association.
